Musicians and New Yorkers cheered as Bruce Springsteen officially re-opened Broadway, performing for an all-vaccinated audience. AFM Local 802 is in talks with the Broadway League over musician wages and benefits for the fall re-opening of most musicals. Broadway was one of the beneficiaries of the Save our Stages Act and other federal aid, so the union’s goal is to make sure that musicians don’t bear the brunt of any financial cuts or austerity measures.
Separately, Local 802 took a stand with the music students of Juilliard, who recently engaged in non-violent protests and demonstrations to demand a tuition freeze. Local 802 President Adam Krauthamer released a statement in support.
