The Professional Staff Congress kicked off their Fall campaign to Save Lives, Save Jobs, Save CUNY with an around-the-clock online action. The marathon day—called PSC Demands Justice—started at 8 AM Wednesday, August 26, the first day of classes for most CUNY colleges. Video from the day is available on the PSC Facebook (part 1, part 2, and part 3). The schedule featured a mix of live and pre-recorded events organized around the union’s 10 demands, including sessions on increasing class sizes, restoring jobs and health insurance for 2900 laid-off CUNY adjuncts, and fighting tuition hikes and fee increases for students. CUNY Rising Alliance joined with allies and legislators to demand a New Deal for CUNY and the Budget Justice Coalition hosted a roundtable about increasing taxes on the rich. Member-written op-eds were read throughout the day and the greatest hits of recent PSC member actions played in the over-night hours.
