The New York Philharmonic announced this week that it was canceling performances through next June, which was another blow to the musicians of AFM Local 802. This cancellation was the latest in a string of similar announcements from NYC cultural institutions like the Metropolitan Opera and Broadway. However, musicians have kept up their spirits and their solidarity by continuing to perform in any way they can. A quartet from the New York Philharmonic recently recorded a Broadway classic to raise money for fellow musicians in need through the Local 802 Musicians’ Emergency Relief Fund.
