Last week, theatre producers announced that Broadway would continue to be closed through at least May 2021. While this decision values safety over profit, it also extends the displacement of tens of thousands of workers. Actors’ Equity Association, which represents actors and stage managers, knows that Congress must act to pass legislation that protects these workers. The HEROES Act will reinstate pandemic unemployment and increase public arts funding, and a COBRA subsidy will make health insurance affordable during a global pandemic.
