Bill Gates is the largest shareholder in Republic Services, the second-largest waste company in America.
On February 28, Bill Gates said we have “no time to waste” in fighting COVID-19. But workers at Republic –including thousands of Teamsters — say the company isn’t providing PPE, and is intimidating workers who speak out.
On May 8, Republic shareholders will meet for their annual meeting to report profits and discuss their plan for the coming year. We want to make sure Gates gets our message loud and clear before the meeting.
Gates claims to be dedicated to fighting inequality and standing up for public health, but he’s made nearly $100 million a year from his investment in Republic Services while the corporation treats workers like trash. It’s time for him to live his values.
Sanitation is already one of the most dangerous jobs in America, and today workers are risking their lives to keep our communities clean during the COVID-19 pandemic. Gates controls nearly a third of Republic Services shares, more than enough to push the company to provide PPE during this crisis, and to demand they stop busting unions and negotiate with workers in good faith.
Sign our petition to demand that Bill Gates use his power to provide PPE for all Republic Services employees and push the company to stop fighting workers who want to form a union to fight for a voice on the job and safer working conditions.
Thanks for standing with essential workers.
