Actors’ Equity Association this week issued a statement expressing wholehearted support for the new version of the HEROES Act introduced by House Democrats. In addition to carrying over many critical provisions that were included in the HEROES Act when it passed the House in May, this new bill also includes $10 billion in emergency arts funding as well as provisions for workers who earn mixed-income. Equity hopes that this bill can finally pass through both Houses.
“It is inexcusable that the Senate has still refused to take action on the HEROES Act,” said Kate Shindle, president of Actors’ Equity Association. The HEROES Act would also reintroduce federal pandemic unemployment insurance, crucial to union members in an industry almost entirely out of work.
